Maddie's Fund Spay/Neuter Project
MADDIE'S PET RESCUE FOUNDATION
AWARDS $5,000,000 TO ERIE COUNTY COALITION
The Maddie's Spay/Neuter Project in Erie County is a program dedicated to ending the pet overpopulation crisis. Part of the funding that Maddie's Fund has awarded is to assist low income pet owners with the expense of spaying/neutering their cat (see eligibility requirements below). The Maddie's Spay/Neuter Project also funds the sterilization of feral cats (see requirements below).
The five-year Project began on October 1, 2009. By September of 2014, Erie County will be a community where every healthy or treatable dog or cat is guaranteed a home. The SPCA Serving Erie County is the lead agency in the Project, offering guidance to Maddie's partners.
Operation PETS is committed to saving the lives of innocent animals through prevention and we are privileged to be a Maddie's Fund Project Partner. Together we are making a difference!

FERAL CATS
MADDIE'S FUND ELIGIBLITY REQUIREMENTS
Feral cats from Erie County qualify under Maddie's Fund at a cost of $10.00.
Operation PETS will do our best to fit a feral cat into our surgery schedule. Trapping should coincide with our clinic’s ability to spay/neuter so the cats don’t remain in their traps for long. It is possible for a cat to die from hypothermia or heat stroke when confined in a trap outside.
1) The feral cat must have a long-term educated caregiver that provides food, fresh water, and shelter.
2) The feral cat caregiver must be an Erie County resident (must bring proof of residence on day of appointment).
3) All ferals will be temperament tested to verify they are a true feral (wild). If the cat is not a true feral as defined by the Maddie's Fund the cost will be $58.00.
4) All feral cats must come to Operation PETS in a secure, humane trap. NO EXCEPTIONS. This is for the well-being of the cats and the safety of our staff.
5) All feral cats will have their left ear painlessly tipped while anesthetized for surgery. Ear tipping is a well-known identification used by animal control agencies and veterinarians to identify that a feral cat has been sterilized and vaccinated and is being cared for by a caregiver.
6) Complete the Maddie's Spay/Neuter Project Feral Cat Surgery Form
