A Typical Day at Operation PETS
After you make an appointment to bring your pet to Operation PETS, what then?
You will receive a reminder phone call 1-2 days prior to your appointment.
You will be asked to bring your pet to the clinic between 7:30am-8am for admission. You will be here 20-30 minutes for check-in.
We follow a strict surgical schedule so it is very important that you arrive on time. If you are late we may have to re-schedule your surgery.
When you arrive you will leave your pet in the car and come inside first to complete the required paperwork and pay.
When your paperwork is complete we will ask you to bring your pet in.
Our veterinarian will perform a pre-operative physical exam to make sure that your pet is a good surgical candidate.
If there are any concerns you will be notified by phone and the condition will be discussed with you. Otherwise your pet will be cleared for surgery.
Your pet is then settled into its kennel.
The first step is a pre-anesthetic injection. This will help your pet relax and will make them a little sleepy.
Then, the actual anesthetic is administered.
Your pet is then prepped for surgery.
And surgery is performed.
After surgery animals are moved to the recovery blanket.
Our surgical team will check on your pet’s progress throughout the recovery period.
When your pet is actively trying to get up it is carried back to its kennel.
Back in the kennel your pet is given a small snack and checked on several times during the day.
At the end of the day all patients are assessed for recovery status or signs of complications.
After full recovery from anesthesia, animals are discharged from the clinic the same day as surgery.
Sometimes hugs and kisses make it all feel better.
When you return at 5:00 pm for group discharge we will review the post-operative instructions with you. You will be here 20-30 minutes for discharge.
You will be told what to expect over the next few days as your pet recovers from surgery.
You will also be told of any conditions or medical issues the veterinarian may have found during examination that require follow up at a full service veterinary clinic.
Your pet is happy to see you and ready to go home!!
